ASUS PCE-AC68

When I was building my new PC, I needed to think how I would get an internet connection from the router downstairs. I didn’t really want a big Ethernet cable trailing all the way down the stairs, where people could trip over it. So I decided I would get a wireless adapter for my new computer. My router is a ASUS RT-AC66U, which uses both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bandwidth on the wireless. The ASUS RT-AC66U router has a newer wireless standard built in, which is called 801.11 AC. If you have a wireless device that supports the AC standard, you can get a transfer rate of up to 1Gb/s. This means that you can transfer files much quicker within your LAN (Local Area Network). As my router has the AC standard built in, I decided to go for an ASUS wireless card for my computer. The model of wireless card I went for was the ASUS PCE-AC68. The reason I went for this wireless card is because, I knew this card was compatible with my router. This wireless card has a powerful range on it, so it can easily reach the router downstairs. I have had no problems with this wireless card and it is compatible with Windows 8 and Windows 10. With my PC upstairs, I still get a data transfer rate of 700.Mb/s, which is really good considering my router can only handle 1Gb/s.  ...

ASUS RP-AC52

When using wireless on my phone upstairs, I was finding my phone would struggle to get a good internet connection. As my router is downstairs, the signal doesn’t quite reach when I’m using my phone upstairs. I did some research and found that there were various devices that could extend your wireless signal to reach even further. These devices are called wireless repeaters or wireless extenders (depends on device). Effectively they just repeat/extend your wireless signal giving you better wireless coverage overall. The device I decided to go for was the ASUS RP-AC52. The reason I went for this device was because it has different modes depending on your situation. These are the following modes: Repeater Mode  – In Repeater mode, RP-AC52 wirelessly connects to an existing wireless network to extend the wireless coverage. Express Way (Router to repeater 5GHz only, repeater to client 2.4GHz) – In Express Way-5GHz mode, RP-AC52 wireless connect to an existing 5GHz WiFi channel and extend the wireless coverage using the 2.4GHz WiFi channel. Your router needs to be able to support the 5GHz Wifi channel. Express Way (Router to repeater 2.4GHz only, repeater to client 5GHz) – In Express Way-2.4GHz mode, RP-AC52 wireless connect to an existing 2.4GHz WiFi channel and extends the wireless coverage using the 5GHz WiFi channel. Media Bridge mode – In Media Bridge mode, RP-AC52 connects to an existing 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi channel and provides Wi-Fi connection to your Ethernet-enabled devices such as a PC or game console. Access Point(AP) mode – In Access Point (AP) mode, the RP-AC52 connects to the router via an Ethernet cable and then extends the wireless...

GIMP

Gimp is a program that is like Photoshop, only it’s free for people to download any time they like. It can be used for many different things from a range of creating banners to creating an animation of photos. There are so many things you can do with gimp. For starters you can get an image off the internet and if it has white around it that you don’t want, you can use the magic wand to go around the white and just leave you with the image. You can also make a shiny button effect. This makes whatever shape you are using look a bit more effective and professional. Another thing you can do is go to the gimp website – http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/ and it tells you how to create things using gimp. If you’re a new user of gimp this helps you to get started and when you follow some of them you may get a better idea of how you can use gimp to create things that you may want to create. Overall this is a very good piece of software!...

Iphone 3GS

The IPhone 3GS is a really cool phone because when you go out in the sunlight the screen is still visible, whereas on other phones it’s not. The phone is quite sturdy and the casing doesn’t really get damaged when you drop it. Another great feature is the silence button, it is very handy for instance if you are about to go into a building, you can just flick the switch on the side which will put the phone on silent. The iPhone is quite fast on apps and you only have to force close them a couple of times whilst they are always open. The safari browser is pretty stable but occasionally you have to wait a while before you can get on the webpage again if you lose signal....

Call of Duty: Blackops PS3

Call of Duty Black ops is a very good Call of Duty, it has more thrill than the others. I found the maps were more detailed and much better to navigate around on. There were not as many glitches in Black ops as there were in Call of Duty World at War but that makes it even better because people can’t creep up on you. The zombies on Call of Duty: Black Ops was far more exciting than World at War and you could do so much more such as have better weapons like the powerful Thunder Gun....

Samsung Galaxy S3 Review

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is running Android 4.0, which is google’s operating system called android. The version of android is called Ice Cream Sandwich and that was released after the following; Android beta, Android 1.0 – Astro, Android 1.1 – Bender, Android 1.5 – Cupcake, Android 1.6 – Donut, Android 2.0/2.1 – Eclair, Android 2.2.x – Froyo, Android 2.3.x – Gingerbread and Android 3.x – Honeycomb. Samsung have released an update so you can upgrade your operating system to android 4.1.1 – Jellybean, which was shortly released after Ice Cream Sandwich. For the processor, it has a Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A9, which is actually quite powerful. The S3 battery lasts up to 43 hours (depending on use) and the design really stands out. The browser supports HTML and Adobe Flash, which means it will support; youtube, facebook and many more applications. The S3 has a 4.8-inch screen, which looks pretty good and allows you to watch things in HD. There’s also an 8-megapixel rear camera with flash and 1080p HD video capture. The front camera is 1.9 MP and this allows you to video call others without lag. Overall, the Galaxy S3 is a brilliant phone and it is very sturdy. One thing I would note though is the screen is very easy to smash as I found out when my sister dropped hers (face down onto a stone). But on the upside, the phone is very stylish and the phone is very portable which means it is very easy to carry around with you....
